Most people head to nearby Point Au Roche State Park in the summertime, but did you know it also boasts plenty of fun winter activities?
That’s right, from snowshoeing to cross-country skiing, there is so much to love about Point Au Roche State Park come the snowy season.
The park boasts a mix of open and forested walking trails, suitable for snowshoeing, hiking and cross-country skiing. Rentals are not available so remember to bring your own gear.
Trails run all across the park and range in length. The lengthiest is Long Point at 4.1 miles, however, there are several short hikes between 1 and 3 miles, with one of the most popular being Treadwell Bay.
Ice fishing is another popular activity in Point Au Roche State Park. Many people don’t realize the park facilitates ice fishing and provides access for it during the winter months.
The park also hosts several fun and educational events year-round.
For example, this month, on Saturday, January 15th and Saturday, January 22nd, Point Au Roche Park is hosting a course called Animal Tracking for Beginners. Running for 60 minutes, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, an instructor will teach you all about the basics of animal tracking and encourage you to try out your new skills on a short walk through the park. The lesson is two parts, meaning you’ll be learning different skills each week, however, guests can come for both or either. All ages and abilities are welcome.
